BLM seeks initial input for February 2027 sale of oil and gas leases in Arizona

BLM Arizona
2 weeks 3 days ago

PHOENIX – The Bureau of Land Management today opened a 30-day public scoping period to receive public input on 92 oil and gas parcels totaling 208,576 acres that may be included in a February 2027 lease sale in Arizona. These parcels were nominated in September and October of 2025 and are distinct from the 40 parcels which may be offered for sale in December 2026. The scoping period for these 92 parcels ends July 29, 2026.

Leasing is the first step in the process to develop federal oil and gas resources. Before development operations can begin, an operator must submit an application for permit to drill detailing development plans. The BLM reviews applications for permits to drill, posts them for public review, conducts an environmental analysis and coordinates with state partners and stakeholders.

All parcels that are included in a federal oil and gas lease sale include appropriate stipulations to protect important natural resources. Information on current and upcoming BLM leases is available through the National Fluid Lease Sale System. BLM lease sales are held online through Efficient Markets.

The parcels BLM is analyzing, as well as maps and instructions on how to comment, are available on the BLM’s ePlanning website at: https://eplanning.blm.gov/Project-Home/?id=c5f10790-8349-f111-88b4-001dd8084607

BLM reminds public lands visitors to be Bear Aware as spring and summer bear activity increases

BLM Arizona

WASHINGTON — The Bureau of Land Management is reminding visitors to take extra precautions in bear country after recent bear incidents in several national parks.

Spring and early summer are periods of increased bear activity. Bears may be moving through habitat, searching for food or protecting cubs. Public lands visitors can reduce the chance of a dangerous encounter by staying alert, hiking in groups, making noise in low-visibility areas, storing food and trash properly and never approaching bears.

“Public lands managed by the BLM are wild places, and wildlife safety is visitor safety,” said BLM Acting Director Bill Groffy. “Simple actions, like giving bears space, securing food and knowing what to do before you enter bear country, can protect visitors and bears.”

Core safety reminders include:

  • Never approach a bear
  • Stay alert and avoid headphones on trails
  • Hike in groups when possible
  • Make noise near streams, dense vegetation and blind corners
  • Store food, trash and scented items properly
  • Carry bear spray where recommended and allowed
  • Never run from a bear
  • Remember: Bear deterrents like spray and firearms are tools, not substitutes for common sense

If you encounter a bear, stay calm, speak in a steady voice, back away slowly and do not make sudden movements. Visitors should report bear encounters to BLM field offices as soon as it is safe to do so.

BLM seeks initial input for December 2026 sale of oil and gas leases in Arizona

BLM Arizona

PHOENIX – The Bureau of Land Management today opened a 30-day public scoping period to receive public input on 40 oil and gas parcels totaling 78,708 acres that may be included in a December 2026 lease sale in Arizona. The scoping period ends June 11, 2026.

"Arizona remains an important oil and gas state in our administration's priority on strengthening American energy production,” said BLM Acting Director Bill Groffy. “This lease sale, which will be the first to be held in Arizona since 2018, will extend our streak of successful oil and gas lease actions under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.”

BLM approves Diamondback Lateral Pipeline project in Mohave Valley

BLM Arizona
3 months 2 weeks ago

LAKE HAVASU, Ariz. — The Bureau of Land Management has approved a right-of-way amendment for the Diamondback Lateral Pipeline project in Mohave Valley under emergency permitting procedures. With this approval, El Paso Natural Gas Company, LLC., may construct a high-pressure natural gas pipeline connecting existing infrastructure to help bring natural gas to a metering station on private land.

The pipeline, which will extend about 0.7 miles across BLM-managed public land, includes approximately four acres of permanent right-of-way and another four acres for temporary workspace. The ten-inch lateral pipeline is expected to deliver up to 42 million cubic feet of natural gas per day from two existing pipelines to a proposed Arizona Electric Power Cooperative natural gas power plant on private lands near Mohave Valley.

The pipeline will operate primarily below ground with limited surface infrastructure. Construction activities will be temporary, and disturbed areas will be restored as near as practicable to pre-construction conditions. Planned construction includes trenching, pipe placement, and backfilling generally within or adjacent to existing infrastructure corridors.

Short-term access restrictions may occur to ensure public and worker safety. No long-term closures are anticipated. Additional information is available at the BLM National NEPA Register.
